Tumble Dryer Regulations

As of July 2025, all of our Sensis tumble dryers come with an additional energy label in the box, as introduced and approved by the EU. These labels currently only apply to Northern Ireland and countries within the EU, but we want to give you a breakdown of the changes, as the ratings do appear to be different from the standard UK label. It is important to note that the energy efficiency of the products remains the same; it is simply shown on a different scale.

But what do they mean, and how are they different?

Why the new labels?

In a nutshell, these labels have been designed to make it quicker and easier to find and choose the most energy-efficient dryers. The changes reflect the European Commission's aim to enhance consumers' understanding of energy ratings, highlight improvements made to energy standards, and incentivise further innovation within the industry.

In a bid to give consumers a better understanding of the energy impact of new tumble dryers and provide clearer information, these new labels help people make more informed and sustainable purchasing decisions.

What is new?

The changes bid farewell to the days of the “Plus” classes, such as A+++, A++, and A+, instead replacing them with a new simplified energy consumption scale ranging from A to G. Under the new system, dryers previously rated A+++ are now classified as A, A++ as B, and so on. The graphics on the label continue to follow the existing style, ranging from dark green for the most efficient models to red for the least efficient.

The way in which energy consumption over time is displayed has changed, moving from a weighted annual consumption to energy consumption per 100 cycles. The labels also show details such as the average programme duration, noise level, and condensation efficiency (how efficiently the tumble dryer extracts and collects moisture, without releasing it into the room around it).

A new change of note is the addition of a QR code to all tumble dryer energy labels. By scanning the code, you can access more detailed product information that comes straight from an EU online database, which you can download and keep for future reference.
